Sterling Marlin is one of the 75 Greatest Drivers of All time as of 2023. He has completed 748 races in NASCAR over 33 years. Marlin competed in NASCAR full time from 1983 to 2006. He raced for many different teams like Chip Ganassi Racing, Team SAABCO and others during his NASCAR career. Marlin was involved in a huge controversy during 2001 after the death of Dale Earnhardt at the 2001 Daytona 500.
He was involved in a wreck with Earnhardt and fans blamed him for Earnhardt’s death, going so far as to give death threats to Sterling Marling and his family. The Earnahrdt family had to come forth to clear Marlin's name.
Sterling Marlin was born on June 30, 1957 in Columbia, Tennessee. He made his NASCAR debut at the Nashville Speedway in 1976. Marlin was filling in for his injured father and finished 29th in the race.
He is a second generation NASCAR driver, his father is Coo Coo Marlin. Marlin extensively took part in keeping the Fairgrounds Speedway active in the racing community. He was inducted in the Fairgrounds Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009.

Sterling Marlin has procured 10 victories in his NASCAR career as an active racer. He has won three Crown Jewel races throughout his career. Marlin was the winner of the prestigious Daytona 500 in 1994 and 1995. He also won the Winston 500 in 1996. Sterling Marlin has had an average record in NASCAR. He was never able to win the championship but he came close twice in 1995 and 2001 when he placed third in the Drivers Standings. His first victory in NASCAR at the 1994 Daytona 500.
Marlin repeated his feat the following year. He is currently one of the only four drivers who have managed to win Daytona twice in succession. He also has won two races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
