The Carolina Hurricanes were established in 1972 as the New England Whalers as part of the World Hockey Association (WHA), before transitioning as the Hartford Whalers in 1979 as the WHA merged with the National Hockey League (NHL). This iteration of the team lasted until the 1996-97 season after which the team finally relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina and were renamed as the Carolina Hurricanes.

Notably, the Hurricanes represent the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference as of April 2024 and host their home games at PNC Arena. Since their relocation, the team has largely been successful in adding silverware to the collection. This includes a Stanley Cup Championship ( 2005-06), two Conference Championships ( 2001-02, 2005-06) and eight Division Championships. Moreover, they have qualified for the 2023-24 playoffs and will look to secure their second Stanley Cup Championship in the meantime.
