Ajee Wilson is an American track and field born on 8th May 1994. She hails from Neptune city of New Jersey in the USA. Ajee specializes in middle distance running and represents her country internationally in 800m.
Background
Ajee Wilson was born to Zachary Wilson and Tonya Anderson. She has been residing in Neptune city in New Jersey ever since she was born. Ajee has a brother and three sisters.
Ajee was an athletic girl at a very young age. She attended the Academy of Allied Science and Health, a high school in Neptune Township, New Jersey. In 2012, after completing her high school education, Ajee initially joined the Florida State University and committed to the college team Florida State Seminoles before deciding to turn professional athlete.
Before the fall semester began, Ajee quit Florida State University and moved to Temple University, where she was trained under Derek Thompson to become a pro athlete.
In 2016, Ajee Wilson completed her graduation from the Temple University. She trains with Juventus Track Club in Philadelphia and coach Derek Thompson.
Rise to Glory
Ajee Wilson received her first career breakthrough in 2007 when she won the Gold medal in 3000m in the Sub-Youth category at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. The following year, at the same event, she clinched Gold medal double in 1500m and 3000m in the Youth category.
In 2010, Ajee triumphed her first junior national title in 800m at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships. That year, in July, she competed at the World Junior Athletics Championships and finished 5th in the 800m final. In 2011, Ajee won the 800m title at the World Youth Athletics Championships.
In 2012, Ajee Wilson defended her 800m junior national championship title and also won the Gold medal in 800m at the World Junior Athletics Championships. A year later, she won her first national 800m title at the U.S Indoor Track and Field Championships, followed by the 800m Bronze medal in the U.S Outdoor Championships.
Ajee Wilson has an accumulation of 11 senior national titles (indoor and outdoor combined) in 600m (2), 800m (8), and 1000m (1) under her belt. In 2018, she won the Gold medal in 800m at the NACAC Athletics Championships.
Ajee Wilson is ranked as the 20th fastest runner in the world in the women's 800-meter dash with a third-best national timing of 1:55.61.
Major Achievements
Ajee Wilson made her professional debut in 2013 at the World Athletics Championships, where she finished 6th in 800m. In 2014, she won her senior international title in the 4x800m relay at the World Athletics Relays. The following year, at the same event, Ajee set the world record while claiming the Gold medal in Distance Medley Relay by clocking 10:36.50s.
In 2016, Ajee Wilson clinched the 200m title at the World Indoor Championships. That year, in August, she made her Olympic debut at the Rio Olympics but ended up in disappointment as she finished 12th in 800m heats. The following year, at the World Athletics Championships, Ajee won the Bronze medal in 800m with the timing of 1:56.65s.
In 2018, Ajee won the Silver medal in 800m by clocking 1:58.99s, 0.68s behind Gold-medalist Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi at the World Indoor Championships. In 2019, she again won the 800m Bronze medal at the Worlds, followed by the 800m title at the Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium. In the Continental Cup, she had won only two Silver medals in 800m (2014 and 2018).
Ajee will make an appearance in her second Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and is one of the strong contenders for the Gold medal in the 800-meter dash
