Aline Rotter-Focken: A Brief Biography
Aline Rotter Focken is a German female wrestler born on 10th May 1991. She is a native of Krefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aline specializes in Freestyle wrestling and represents Germany in the 76 kg category.
Aline was introduced to wrestling by her father-cum-coach, Hans-Georg Focken, at the age of five. She pursued the sport seriously and went on to win junior titles in her weight category. Aline first came into the international scene in 2013 when she won the Bronze medal in the 67 kg Freestyle category at the European Wrestling Championships.
In 2014, Aline Rotter Focken was crowned as World Champion in the 69 kg category. She would go on to win a Silver medal in 2017 (69 kg) and two Bronze medals in 2015 (69 kg) and 2017 (76 kg). In 2015, Aline won the Bronze medal in the 69 kg category at the European Games.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Aline made her Olympics debut but was knocked out in the quarterfinal after losing to Jenny Fresson of Sweden. In 2019 and 2020, she won two Bronze medals in the 69 kg Freestyle category at the European Wrestling Championships. At the 2020 Individual Wrestling World Cup, she clinched the Gold medal in the 76 kg category.
Aline Rotter Focken qualified for her second Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and will compete in the women’s 76 kg Freestyle category.
