Anthony Limbombe Ekango, Congolese by origin, is a professional Belgium footballer who plays at times, at midfield or at forward position. He is an eminent player at various age levels of junior national teams. He had been a part of some popular teams like Mechelen, Racing Genk and NEC Nijmegen. He is currently playing for the Club Brugge.
Background
Limbombe was born on 15 July 1994 in Mechelen, province of Antwerp in Belgium. He began his youth career in 2000 for the local club, KV Mechelen.
After a tenure of 5 years in the youth setup of Mechelen, he switched to Belgium Pro League side Racing Genk for the next 5 years.
Senior career
In 2010, Limbombe made his debut in the professional football by playing for Racing Genk against Lokeren in a 3-1 victory game.
He played for the club in various prestigious tournaments like UEFA Europa League and Champions League. He was also a part of the Belgium Pro League 2010-11 and Belgium Super Cup 2011 winning squad. Limbombe played in 51 games and scored 2 goals.
He went to Lierse on loan for the 2013-14 season and scored at 2 times in the 6 games he played in.
In 2014, Anthony signed with the Dutch football club, N.E.C. He played 65 games for the club in 3 seasons and scored 21 goals.
In 2016, he again went back to a Belgium based club, Club Brugge, on a 4 year deal for a fee approx £2 million. He made 14 appearances and scored 6 goals for the club since then.
Rise to glory
Limbombe impressed in his debut season at NEC, scoring 14 goals and providing numerous assists, helping the club to win the Eerste Divisie as champions and gain promotion to Eredivisie.
International career
Anthony was the part of U16 squad of the national junior team in season 2009-10. He played in 11 games and scored 4 goals in the season. The following year, he was shifted to U17 team and he played 8 games with them.
He was also the part of national U19 team for the season 2012-13 and he scored 2 international goals in his 6 games.
