Atanu Das is an Indian archer born on 5th April 1992. He represents India in Recurve men’s individual and the team at the major events. Das currently ranks 22nd in the world in archery.

Atanu Das- Early Life , Family & Background

Atanu Das was born to Amit Das and Arati Das in Kolkata. Das did his schooling from Baranagar Narendranathn Vidyamandir in Kolkata. He also holds a degree in BA (Hons) from Vinayaka Mission University in Salem, Tamil Nadu.

Atanu Das took up an interest in archery at the age of 14 and immediately joined an archery academy in Kolkata to foster his skill. He was passionate about archery and promised to emerge successful in the sport.

Atanu Das is currently employed at Bharat Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. He’s married to Deepika Kumari, a fellow archery player and erstwhile world no.1.

Atanu Das- Biography

Atanu Das’s 1st success in his archery career came in 2010 when he won a Gold medal at the 33rd Junior National Archery Championships. From 2008 onwards, he began to represent India internationally starting with the World Youth Championships.

At the 2008 World Youth Championships, he won his 1st international medal by winning Bronze. And, at the 2011 World Youth Championships, he won a Silver medal in Recurve Junior men’s team, which he considers a big breakthrough in his archery career.

In 2011, Atanu Das won a Bronze and a Gold at the Sahara Senior National Archery Championships held in Vijayawada and 34th National Games held in Jamshedpur, respectively. He won both the medals in the Recurve men’s team. Das had won his 1st International individual medal by clinching Gold at the 3rd Asian Grand Prix in Dhaka in 2011. At the same event, he also won a Bronze and a Gold in Recurve Men’s Team and Recurve Mixed Team apiece.

2 years later, Das won 3 Bronze medals at the 2013 Asian Archery Grand Prix held in Thailand. One individual Bronze in Recurve men’s individual and the other 2 Bronze medals in Recurve Mixed Team and Recurve Men’s Team. In 2014, Atanu Das won a Silver medal at the Senior National Archery Championships. In that same year, Das won Silver at the World University Championships.

Atanu Das- Achievements

Atanu Das won a Bronze medal at the 2013 Archery World Cup in the Recurve Mixed Team. A year later, Das won a Silver and Bronze in Recurve Men’s Team and Mixed Team respectively at the 2014 Archery World Cup held in Medellin and a Silver in Recurve Men’s Team held in Wroclaw.

At the 2019 Asian Archery Championships, Das won a Bronze medal each in three events – Recurve Individual, Recurve Men’s Team, and Recurve Mixed Team.

Shantanu Das’s dream was to represent India in archery at the Olympics. His dream got fulfilled when he represented India at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He was the only male archer at the event as there was only one male quota berth for India which he had successfully achieved through trials. Unfortunately, he didn’t win any medals at the Rio Olympics.

This year, Das will be again representing India at Tokyo Olympics, which he had successfully booked after he won a Silver Medal at the 2019 World Archery Championships held in the Netherlands.
