Chinglensana Singh (Football): A Brief Biography
Chinglensana Singh or Sana Singh is a professional footballer from Manipur, India. Born on 23rd November 1996, the center back is known for his strong presence on the field and cool head with the ball.
Standing over 6 feet tall, the prodigy currently plays for FC Goa in the ISL and has also represented the national team in an unofficial match against Bhutan in 2017.
Early days
Chinglensana kicked a football for the first time at the age of six and instantly fell in love with the game.
To fulfil his dream of becoming a professional player, he shifted to Mumbai along with his brother in spite of financial difficulties. After captaining his school team, Chinglensana got his first breakthrough when he got selected for Mahindra United’s U15 team.
From there, he moved to the Tata Football Academy where he honed his skills while carrying his team to a victory in the I-League U19 in 2014. Chinglensana was also called to represent the U19 national side during his time at TFA.
Debut
Chinglensana signed his first contract with Shillong Lajong FC in the I-league in 2015. He made his professional debut against Mumbai in January 2016 at the age of 20.
Being a part of the starting team, Chinglensana played the full match, which went without a goal.
Thereafter, Chinglensana was an integral part of Shillong’s defense and started almost all the matches for the team.
In a span of one year, he played over 32 games for the team and even managed to score on two occasions.
Rise to glory
His performance at Shillong Lajong FC did not go unnoticed as he received a call-up to the senior national team in 2016.
Although he only played in an unofficial match, he managed to impress the coaches at the camp.
Not long thereafter, Chinglensana was bought by Delhi Dynamos where he made his debut in the Indian Super League. He had a successful debut campaign in his first ISL, where he featured in 12 games and Delhi reached the semifinals of the tournament.
Following his time with Delhi Dynamos, Chinglensana went back to Shillong Lajong FC for some time before it was announced that the Manipur player has been signed by FC Goa for 19 lakhs to play in the 2017-2018 edition of the ISL.
With only 21 years of age, Chinglensana has a lot of football left to play. With the AFC Asian Cup just round the corner, India will be playing a number of matches and Chinglensana would be hoping to get a national call up if he performs well in the ISL.
