Dezerea Bryant: A Brief Biography
Dezerea Bryant is an American track and field athlete born on 27th April 1993. She is a native of Milwaukee city of Wisconsin in the United States. Dezerea is a Sprint specialist and represents the USA internationally in 100m and 200m Sprints.
Background:
Dezerea Bryant comes from a very humble family. She was born and brought up in Wisconsin’s Milwaukee city, where the majority of the city is underprivileged. Dezearea was raised along with 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
Dezerea had a keen interest in athletics at a young age. While studying at Bradley Technical High School, she began to pursue her interest in sprinting. Dezerea was a 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay Champion for her high school at the WIAA Championships.
In 2011, after graduating from high school, Dezerea enrolled at Clemson University, where she was 9-time ACC Champion for Clemson Tigers. In 2013, after two collegiate seasons, she moved to the University of Kentucky and became a member of the athletics team Kentucky Wildcats. Dezerea had represented both the university athletics teams at the NCAA Championships.
In 2015, Dezerea graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Community Leadership Development from the University of Kentucky. Interestingly, she was the first person from her family to obtain a degree.
Rise to Glory:
Dezerea Bryant's first career breakthrough as a junior athlete came in 2009 when she won the Silver medal and a Bronze in 100m and 200m sprints respectively at the USATF National Olympic Championships. In 2010, she took home the Bronze medal in the 200m US Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In 2012, representing Clemson Tigers, Dezerea won her first NCAA medal by taking home Bronze in 4x100 Relay at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That year, she clinched her first national title in 100m and a Silver medal in 200m at the US Junior Championships.
At the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Dezerea clinched her first NCAA title in 200m and a Silver medal in 60m while representing Kentucky Wildcats. The following year, she took home her first NCAA Outdoor title in 200m and a Silver in 100m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
In 2017, Dezerea Bryant bagged her first senior medal by winning Silver in 60m at the US Indoor Championships. Two years later, In 2019, she clinched her maiden senior national title in 200m at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Major Achievements:
Dezerea Bryant received her first international break at the 2010 World Junior Championships when she helped her US relay team to clinch the Gold medal in the 4x100m Relay by clocking 43.44s. Two years later, in 2012, Dezerea was a part of the US relay team that defended the 4x100m title, while she won the Bronze medal in 200m sprints at the championships.
In 2017, Dezerea won the Bronze medal in the 4x200m Relay at the World Athletics Relay in Nassau, Bahamas. The following year, she competed at the Athletics World Cup but her US relay team failed to reach the finishing line in the 4x100m final after her teammate suffered an injury.
Dezerea made her senior world debut at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, where she won the Bronze medal with her US relay team in the 4x100m Relay, whereas Dezerea finished 5th in 200m Sprints. That year, in May, she was a part of the US relay team that clinched the 4x100m title at the World Athletics Relays.
Dezerea Bryant will look to secure her spot on the US Olympic for her debut Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via US Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to medal in 100m Sprints.
