Epico: A Brief Biography
Orlando Tito Colon is a Puerto Rican professional wrestler who is currently signed to the WWE. He performs in the SmackDown brand under the ring name Epico Colon. He is one half of the tag team stable known as The Colons, with the other half being Primo colon, his real life cousin. The Colons are a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion.
Background
His family has a decent wrestling background. He is the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Carlos Colon Sr. His cousins, Primo Colon and Carlito Caribbean Cool, are also well known wrestlers who have turned out for the WWE.
Epico History
Epico began his professional wrestling training at Dan Severn’s Michigan Sports Camps and soon started competing in the Price of Glory Wrestling promotion. He also simultaneously appeared for independent promotions such as Hybrid Pro Wrestling and Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South.
In 2006, he decided to join World Wrestling Council, a wrestling promotion owned by his uncle, Carlos Colon Sr. At WWC, Epico operated under the ring name Fire Blaze. He went on to win the WWC Puerto Rico Heavyweight Championship, his first ever title. In the following six months, he dropped and recovered his title twice. While at the promotion, Epico developed an intense feud with Ray Gonzalez which revolved around the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship. Prior to signing with WWE in 2010, he won the Puerto Rico Heavyweight Championship again. In his final days with the company, he also won the WWC Caribbean Heavyweight Championship. During his stint with WWC, Epico also turned out for Pro Wrestling Zero1, which is based in Japan.
After signing with the WWE, Epico made his debut on March 11, 2010 for the Florida Championship Wrestling, which served as the-then developmental territory for WWE. Epico won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship as part of the tag team called Los Aviadores. He went on to make his main roster debut on November 4, 2011 for SmackDown. He soon started teaming up with his cousin Primo (they were managed by Rosa Mendes), but only assumed their current tag team The Colons, much later. They were initially called Los Matadores which was changed to The Shining Stars and finally to The Colons.They defeated Air Boom (comprising of Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston) on January 15, 2012 to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Injury
Epico suffered a shoulder injury in November 2010, for which he had to undergo a surgery in January next year. He faced a lengthy spell away from the WWE following his surgery.
