Erica Wiebe: A Brief Biography
Erica Wiebe is a Canadian female wrestler born on 13th June 1989. She is a native of Stittsville in Ontario, Canada. Erica specializes in Freestyle wrestling and represents Canada in the 76 kg category.
Erica took up wrestling at the age of 9 while studying at Sacred Heart High School when she saw the signpost for co-ed wrestling practice at her high school. Ultimately, she fell in love with wrestling and began to pursue it seriously. Erica was pursuing other sports, including soccer, before switching to wrestling.
In 2012, Erica Wiebe got an opportunity to travel with the Canada Olympic team as an extended team member for the London Olympics and there she was a practice partner for Leah Callahan. The following year, she won the Bronze medal in the 72 kg category at the World University Games.
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Erica won the Gold medal in the 75 kg category. In 2015, she took home the Gold medal in the 75 kg Freestyle at the Summer Universiade. The following year, Erica made her Olympics debut at the Rio Olympics and clinched the Gold medal in the 75 kg Freestyle category.
In 2018, Erica Wiebe defended her Gold medal in the 76 kg category at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. That year, in October, she won the Bronze medal in the 76 kg Freestyle at the World Wrestling Championships.
In March 2020, Erica Wiebe won the Gold medal in the 76 kg Freestyle at the Pan American Wrestling Olympic Qualification and secured her berth at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
