Faryd Mondragon: A Brief Biography
Faryd Mondragon is a former Colombian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born on July, 21, 1971, he won 56 caps for Colombia.
Background
He played for Youth club, Deportivo Cali in 1989 from where he began his career and alongside that played for Independiente Santa Fe thereafter moved to Cerro Porteno in Paraguay. He later joined Argentinos Juniors, an exclusive championship of Argentina in 1993.
Debut
He made his debut in the national squad in 1993 and he was one of the best players during 1998 World Cup in France.
Rise to glory
His team won accolades like Turkiye Kupasi by Galatasaray SK in 2004, Turkish Champion- Super Lig by Galatasaray SK in 2001 & 2005, UEFA Cup in 2003 & 2004. Mondragon won individual award of The Goalkeeper of The Year in Super Lig in 2005.
Low Points
Injuries like Strain and muscle fibre acted as minor impediments in the path of his career in 2009 however, due to fracture in his finger in 2010 he had to miss four matches of Philadelphia Union.

At Brazil 2014, he set the record of of becoming the oldest person ever to play at the World Cup. For this, on 24 June 2014, his named appeared in the Guiness Book Of Records for being the oldest person to play in the competition.
His 20 year gap between his first and last World Cups was a tournament record and his 16 year gap between his appearances at France 1998 and Brazil 2014 was the longest in World Cup history.
