Fedrick Dacres: A Brief Biography

Fedrick Dacres is a Jamaica track and field athlete born on 28th February 1994. He hails from Kingston city of Jamaica. Fedrick specializes in Discus Throw and represents Jamaica internationally in that event.

Background:

Fedrick Dacres was born to Late Dacres Sr. and Claudette Morgan. He comes from a humble family residing in Kingston city of Jamaica. He has a brother Rojay Dacres who is also a Discus Thrower.

Fedrick was introduced to Discus Throw by his brother, Rojay, at a young age. He attended Calabar High School, where he began his career in the sport under the tutelage of Julian Robinson. Fedrick emerged as a competitive and promising athlete with titles in Discus Throw in high school state competitions.

In 2012, after completing his high school education, Fedrick joined the University of West Indies, where he became a member of the athletic team UWI Mona. As a freshman, he participated and won medals in national and intercollegiate competitions. In sophomore year, he won the Discus Throw and Shot Put titles at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships.

Rise to Glory:

Fedrick Dacres received his career breakthrough in 2010 when he won the Gold medal in Discus Throw at the CARIFTA Games in Georgetown, Cayman Islands. That year, in June, he won the junior national title in Discus Throw and Shot Put Bronze at the Jamaica U-18 Championships. In August, he competed at the Youth Olympics, where he finished 12th in the qualifying round of Discus Throw.

In 2011, Fedrick won his first senior national title in Discus Throw at the Jamaica National Championships in Kingston. That year, he broke into the national limelight after he won the Discus Throw Gold at the World Youth Athletics Championships.

In 2012, Fedrick won the world junior title in Discus Throw at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. In 2014, while representing UWI Mona, he won the Discus Throw title at the Texas Relays. At the 2016 Intercollegiate Championships, he won the title in Shot Put and a Silver medal in Discus Throw.

Fedrick Dacres has 7 senior national titles in Discus Throw under his belt. His 70.78m throw (Diamond League Rabat Leg) is the world’s 19th highest throw in Discus Throw.

Major Achievements:

Fedrick Dacres made his professional international debut at the 2015 Pan American Games, where he won the Gold medal in Discus Throw by throwing at a distance of 64.80m. That year, in August, he competed at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, and finished 7th in the final with a throw of 64.22m.

In 2016, Fedrick made his Olympic debut at the Rio Olympics and finished at 34th position in the qualifying round of Discus Throw. The following year, he improved his position by finishing 4th in Discus Throw by throwing at 65.83m at the World Athletics Championships.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Fedrick Dacres won the Gold medal in Discus Throw with a throw of 68.20m (Games record). That year, he won the first Diamond League title in Discus Throw in Brussels, Belgium, followed by a Gold medal at the Continental Cup in Ostrava, Russia. Fedrick had also won the Discus Throw title at the Athletics World Cup in London.

In 2019, Fedrick defended his Gold medal in Discus Throw at the Pan American Games. That year, he won the Silver medal with a throw of 66.94m at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Fedrick Dacres will compete in his second Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
