Gagan AP Ulalmath: A Brief Biography
Adaveeshaiah Puttaveeraswamy Gagan Ullalmath popularly known as Gagan Ullalmath, is an Indian swimmer who was the only swimmer to represent India in the 2012 London Olympics. He won six gold medals for Karnataka in National Games in 2007. His personal best in the 1,500m freestyle event is 15:59.33 secs, set at the AASF Age Group Championships in Palembang, Indonesia, in 2011. Though Gagan did not achieve any qualification standard, he was granted an Olympic berth when FINA chose him in the men\'s 1,500m freestyle under the \'Universality\' quota. Under the \'Universality\' quota, participation in the World Championships is a must and Gagan had taken part in the 800m freestyle in that event in Shanghai in July last year which ensured his qualification. He finished 6th in heat 1 of 1500m freestyle event with time 16:31:14 and was eventually knocked out.
