Haji Aliyev: A Brief Biography

Haji Aliyev is an Azerbaijani wrestler born on 21st April 1991. He is a native of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in Azerbaijan. Haji specializes in Freestyle wrestling and represents his country in the 65 kg category.

Haji Aliyev received his first career break in 2009 when he won the Gold medal in the 60 kg category at the Azerbaijan Youth Wrestling Championships. In 2012, he won his international medal by taking home a Silver medal in the 60 kg category at the Wrestling World Cup. The following year, Haji won the Bronze medal in the 60 kg at the World University Games.

In 2014, Haji was crowned European champion in the 61 kg category at the European Wrestling Championships. He would go on to win two European titles (2018 and 2019) in the 65 kg category and a Bronze medal (2016) in the 61 kg. In 2016, Haji made his Olympics debut at the Rio Olympics and won the Bronze medal in the 61 kg category.

At the World Wrestling Championships, Haji Aliyev clinched three titles (2014, 2015, and 2017) in the 61 kg category. Between 2015 and 2018, he won a Silver medal (2018), and two Bronze (2015 and 2017) at the Wrestling World Cup.

In 2019, Haji Aliyev won a Gold medal in the 65 kg and a Bronze in the 61 kg category at the European Games. The following year, he took home a Bronze medal in the 65 kg category at the Individual Wrestling World Cup.

Haji Aliyev will compete at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the 65 kg category.
