Henrique Sereno Biography
Henrique Sereno is a professional footballer from Portugal. Born on the 18th of May, 1985 in Elvas, Sereno is a central defender who plays for Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League.
Background
Sereno started his career at Vitória de Guimarães in the Portuguese Primiera Liga in the 2005-06 season.
After have a poor time with the club, he was loaned to F.C. Famalicão for one season.
However, the hunger to excel made him stronger as he formed a formidable defensive pair with his teammate Pedro as Vitória came from the second division into a final third Primeira Liga position.
The defender was not making impactful performances and hence was not able to stick to a team.
After joining Porto in 2010, he was loaned out to FC Koln and Valladolid. He represented Porto in just 7 games.
The big defender was still finding his form and was a long way from becoming an established player.
Debut
Sereno made his debut for Portugal on 10 June 2013, playing the second half of a 1–0 friendly win with Croatia in Geneva.
He did not contribute much in the game as Portugal eased past the Croatians. The road has been difficult for Sereno since then as he has failed to get into the team.
He has lot just two international caps for Portugal under his belt.
Rise to Glory
Sereno scored the most important goal of his career in ISL on the 18th of December 2016 for Atletico de Kolkata.
His goal proved to be the equaliser and his team went on to beat the Kerala Blasters on penalties.
On the 24th of June, 2016, Elvas city hall commended Sereno for his achievements in football.
Low Points
The defender had a disastrous campaign in 2008-09 season due to his knee injury. The fact that he had to undergo surgery in both the knees put his career on the line.
Serono has failed to become an established player. Currently aged 32, it is highly unlikely that the player will be recalled to the national side. He did not live up to the expectations in any of the clubs that he represented.
