Stiven Mendoza: A Brief Biography
Stiven Mendoza is a 5 ft 7.5 tall Colombian professional footballer. He was born on 27 June 1992 in Palmira, Colombia. Mendoza mainly plays as a striker for Amiens SC in France’s Ligue 1.
Background
Mendoza started his senior career with Envigado in 2010. In 2012, he was loaned to America Cali where he played 41 games, scoring 10 goals before he was again transferred on a loan to Cucuta Deportivo in 2013.
In 2014, he was signed by Chennaiyin FC to play in the Indian Super League. However, the following season, he joined Brazilian club Corinthians with a two-year contract.
Chennaiyin loaned him back for the ISL in 2015 and during this season he scored 13 goals in only 16 games and won Golden Boot.
Debut
In 2009, Mendoza joined Colombia U17 national team and represented it in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He made a total of 7 appearances for Colombia U17 team. In 2011, he was called up to join the Colombia U20 National team in the South American U-20 Championship held at Peru.
Club Career
On 1 October 2014, Mendoza made his debut in Indian Super League for Chennaiyin in a match against FC Goa by replacing marquee player Elano. In that season he had played nine games and scored four goals but he failed to take his team to finals of ISL 2014.
On 19 December 2014, Mendoza returned to South America, joining Brazil's Sports Club Corinthians Paulista on a four-year deal. On 10 May 2015, he made his debut in Brazilian Championship A Series.
Later on 31 August 2015, he was loaned by Chennaiyin for ISL 2015 and he had a great unforgettable season of his career as he was named the Hero of the League and also won the Golden Boot with 13 goals.
On 8 March 2016, he signed a season-long loan at New York City FC of Major League Soccer and made his debut against Toronto FC at the Yankee Stadium which was a 2-2 draw.
On 17 January 2018, Mendoza started playing in French professional league named Ligue 1 Conforama by signing a contract with Amiens which lasts till 2021. He made his debut that same day against Montpellier HSC which resulted in a 1–1 draw.
