Kairi Sane is a Japanese professional wrestler signed to WWE, where she was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown. She is a member of the Damage CTRL group alongside Iyo Sky, Bayley, Asuka, and Dakota Kai. Besides WWE, she is also known for her work in World Wonder Ring Stardom from 2011 to 2017. Born in 1988, her real name is Kaori Housako. She worked in Stardom under the name Kairi Hojo. In WWE, she is the inaugural Mae Young Classic winner, a former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion and a former NXT Women's Champion. She also won the Wonder of Stardom and the World of Stardom Championship once each besides winning the Artist of Stardom Championship on five occasions.

Kairi Sane Early Life

Kairi Sane's real name is Kaori Housako. She was born in Hikari, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan on September 23, 1988. She has an older sister, who is three years older than Sane. Housako had been quite interested in sports since a very young age. She has a background in yachting where she competed in intercollegiate and national competitions and dreamed of representing the nation in the Olympics. She graduated from Hosei University with a bachelor's degree in Japanese Literature. Following this, she began pursuing a career in acting.

During this phase, Sane also acted in theatres. During one of her plays, she played the role of a villain in professional wrestling. Fuka Kakimoto was also attending the show. She was the General Manager of World Wonder Ring Stardom. She liked the play of Housako and her role, so she invited her an event. Housako loved professional wrestling and decided to pursue a career here.

Professional Wrestling Career

Stardom (2011-2017) (2022-2023)

In 2011, she finished her professional wrestling training. By the next year, she made her wrestling debut. In 2013, she won the Goddess of Stardom Championship with Natsumi Showzuki. In 2015, she won the Artist of Stardom and Wonder of Stardom Championship. After a few years and unsuccessful attempts at the Wonder of Stardom Championship, she left the company. In 2022, she returned to Stardom as KAIRI.

WWE (2017-2021)(2023-Present)

In 2017, she entered the Mae Young Classic. In September, she defeated Shayna Baszler to win the tournament. After signing with WWE, she began working for NXT, where she was renamed Kairi Sane. In 2018, she entered the inaugural Royal Rumble match and lost. At TakeOver Brooklyn 4, Sane defeated Baszler to win the NXT Women's Championship. At Evolution, she lost the title back to Baszler. In 2019, she received several rematches for the NXT Women's Championship but failed to win. After WrestleMania 35, she made her debut on the main roster and teamed up with Asuka to form The Kabuki Warriors. In October, they won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. The duo spent the rest of the year fighting with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

At TLC, Sane and Asuka defeated Lynch and Flair in a TLC tag team match. During the match, Sane suffered a serious injury. At WrestleMania 36, Kabuki Warriors lost the titles to Bliss and Cross. Over the summer, she was involved in a storyline between Asuka and Boss n Hug Connection. During Asuka's title match, she was attacked by Bayley and written off television. Kairi worked as an ambassador for WWE in Japan. In 2021, she was released from her contract.

In August 2023, it was reported that Kairi Sane had come to terms with WWE and in November that year, she made her official return to the company. At WWE Crown Jewel, her friend Iyo Sky defended her WWE Women's Championship against Bianca Belair. She was at the weak end before Sane came out to make the save and help Sky retain the title. The following SmackDown, Sane joined Damage CTRL and so did fellow Japanese wrestler Asuka. Sane joined the group despite the fact that Bayley was there as well, the star who injured her. She teamed up with the fellow members of the group at Survivor Series: WarGames in the titular match. However, the team came up short against Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, Becky Lynch and Shotzi.
