Kaz Grala: A Brief Biography
Kaz Grala is an American stock car racing driver, who competes part-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 36 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Front Row Motorsports and the No. 15 for Rick Ware Racing. Grala has competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Pinty’s Series, ARCA Menards Series East, and ARCA Menards Series West. Grala made his debut in the NASCAR Cup Series in August 2020, replacing Austin Dillon in their No. 3 NASCAR Cup Series car at the Go Bowling 235 Daytona road course, after Dillon tested positive for COVID-19. Grala finished seventh in his Cup Series Debut. Prior to this, Grala made his Xfinity Series debut in 2018 as a Sunoco Rookie of the Year Contender at the 2018 PowerShares QQQ 300, Daytona. Driving the No. 24 Ford for JGL Racing at the time, Grala finished fourth in his debut at Daytona.
Grala has never won a race in the NASCAR Cup Series but has managed to secure two top-ten finishes in the same season. He secured 19 top-ten finishes in the Xfinity Series with zero wins, 24 top-ten finishes in the ARCA Menards Series East with zero wins, and two top-tens in the ARCA Menards Series. Although the stats of Grala’s career in NASCAR does not have many wins, he has been the youngest NASCAR winner in the history of Daytona International Speedway with his win in the 2017 Truck Series season-opener at 18 years old. He also became the youngest person to ever compete in an International Motor Sports Association event at age 15.
Kaz Grala’s Early Life
When Kaz was just four years old, he started racing in go-karts at F1 Boston in Braintree, Massachusetts. He then moved on to racing Bandoleros at age 10 and won the Summer Shootout Championship in 2011. In the same year, Grala won the New York Legendstock and the Massachusetts Bandolero Outlaws state championships, along with 15 races and the Winter Heat Championship at Charlotte in another division- the Legend Car Pro Division in 2012.
2013 saw Grala become the youngest winner in the Late Model UARA-STARS Series at the Hickory Motor Speedway. This achievement was followed by another record as the youngest driver to lead laps in the Myrtle Beach 400. Grala’s NASCAR debut came in 2014, when he competed in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. He also joined Turner Scott Motorsports to compete full-time in the K&N Pro Series East, becoming the youngest driver in the series in 2014.
Grala debuted in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series in 2016 at Martinsville, driving the No. 33 for GMS Racing. In 2018, Grala debuted in the Xfinity Series at Daytona for JGL Racing and finished fourth. However, after JGL Racing shut down, Grala joined Fury Race Cars, driving the No. 61 Mustang. In August 2020, Grala made his debut in the NASCAR Cup Series, substituting for Austin Dillon, driving the No. 3 car for RCR, and finished seventh in his Cup debut.

Grala was born in Boston and raised in the suburb of Westborough, while having Polish ancestry. Grala’s father, Darius Grala, is a former racer who competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona three times. Grala attended the Worcester Academy and graduated in 2017. Grala was about to pursue engineering at Georgia Tech but has rather dropped that option to pursue his racing career. He currently resides in Mooresville, North Carolina.
