Kenny Wallace's Early Life
Kenny Wallace did not start as a racing driver immediately from a young age. He used to work as a mechanic in his early days as a member of his father’s and brother’s racing teams. Kenny Wallace made his racing debut in style in 1982 in the Illinois Street Stock State Championship, winning the event. He returned to his role as a mechanic in 1984 for Benfield Racing and Joe Ruttman. He was later promoted to the role of crew chief.
Wallace started racing in the American Speed Association in 1986, earning the Rookie of the Year honors. He started racing in NASCAR two years later, making his debut in the Busch series at the Martinsville Speedway. His performance earned him a full-time seat on his brother’s team in 1989.
