Leandro Castellanos: A Brief Biography
Andrés Leandro Castellanos Serrano is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Liga Águila club Santa Fe and Colombia National Football Team. Born on 9th March 1984, he was part of Cúcuta’s 2006 Colombian league Championship and their finish amongst top 4 in the Copa Libertadores. Leandro along with his football career owns a farm dedicated to cattle in his native town Toledo.
Background
Born in Toledo, Norte de Santander, Castellanos began his career with Cúcuta Deportivo youth setup in the year 1999. A year later, he made from the Cúcuta U19 to the and was promoted to the first team where he made an appearance before moving to Casanare on loan. He was later loaned out to Pereira in 2005 where he made only one appearance before returning to Cúcuta Deportivo the following season.
Debut
On 14th February 2008, Castellanos made his debut with Cúcuta Deportivo in the Copa Libertadores Santos FC and the match ended in a goalless stalemate.
On 10th November 2017, He made his International debut for Colombia in an International friendly against South Korea where Colombia suffered a shocking 2:1 defeat to the hosts. It turned out to become the only appearance he made for Columbia and was pushed to Bench the following match against China.
Rise to glory
On November 2011, he moved to America de Cali was the first choice goalkeeper after a good preseason with America and made 15 appearances with the club.
On 10th July 2011, he arrives at Deportivo Cali to be the new goalkeeper and played in 20 matches till the 2012 season.
He was signed by Independiente Medellin and in his a spell of 23 matches, he conceded just 21 goals including a penalty save in the semifinals, was one of the major reasons to lead the Medellin to the final.
He moved to Santa Fe and won the Superliga Colombiana and also the Copa Sudamericana in 2015.
On 18th February 2017, Castellanos beat the record of Agustín Julio as goalkeeper of Santa Fe with more undefeated minutes, reaching the 645 minutes without receiving goal while the team completed 19 matches without defeat.
Club career
Castellanos began his career with Cúcuta Deportivo in 2006 and made 107 appearances for the club. He then moved to América de Cali for a short spell of less than a full season where he featured in 15 matches. Deportivo Cali interrupted and spent his time with the Columbian club for a period of 2 seasons making 20 appearances.
In the Summer of 2012, Independiente Medellín made an approach and he became an integral part of the team by making 79 starts in his 2 season stay. He finally was signed by Santa Fe in the 2016 Winter transfers and has then made 87 appearances winning two trophies in the meantime.
