Luis Carlos Perea: A Brief Biography
Luis Carlos Perea is a former professional Colombian footballer, born on 29 December 1963 in Turbo, Colombia.
Perea played as a central defender for majority of his career with Independiente Medellín.
Debut
Perea made his first senior debut for Independiente Medellín a Colombian club in 1983. The defender started his international career with Colombia in the year 1987.
Rise To Glory
After playing with Independiente Medellín for roughly 3 years, Perea went on to play with Atlético Nacional which also competed in the same league. He played there from 1987 to 1990 and also won the 1989 Copa Libertadores.
Perea returned to his first club in 1991 and played till 1993 before joining Atlético Junior.
In 1994 the defender joined Mexican side Toros Neza. After two years he spent a short spell playing for team Deportes Tolima.
In 1997 Perea returned to Atletico Nacional and played there till the next year.
Perea had a glittering international career with Colombia, he bagged 78 caps for his country and scored on 2 occasions. He played in 4 Copa América tournaments and also participated in the finals of the competitions. In fact Perea’s one goal came in the quarterfinals of Copa América which led to a win against Uruguay in the shootouts.
Retirement
Perea retired in 1999 playing last for Nacional a year ago. He began working as a player developmental coach for Miami Strike Force in the United States.
