Michael Andretti's Early Life
Andretti started his motorsports career racing karts, winning 50 of his 75 races over eight years. His consistent performance and skill led him to obtain the SCCA National License in 1980 and the SCCA’s Northeast Division Formula Ford championship in 1981. Andretti progressed to win six races in 1982 and won the Robert Bosch US Formula Super Vee Championship.
In 1983, he moved up to drive in Formula Atlantic and won the title by winning the FIA Formula Mondial North American Cup the following season. Andretti and his father, Mario Andretti, drove as partners in 1983, at 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1984, the duo again raced together in the 24 Hours of Daytona and took the pole position, however, their engine broke during the race.
In 1983, Andretti made his CART debut, racing for the Kraco Enterprises team. In the Indianapolis 500, Andretti finished fifth and shared the Rookie of the Year award with Roberto Guerrero. In 1986, he won his first-ever IndyCar race in 1986 in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
In 1993, Andretti signed for Marlboro McLaren in Formula One to partner with the triple World Drivers’ Champion Ayrton Senna. However, Andretti’s career in Formula One did not last long and ended with the 1993 Italian Grand Prix.

Andretti was born on October 5, 1962, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to parents Mario Andretti and Dee Ann Andretti. Later in March 2012, Andretti Sports Marketing became the promoter of the Milwaukee Mile IndyCar race. Andretti had also invested in a Toyota dealership in his home state of Pennsylvania.
