About
Nico Rosberg is a German racing driver that raced for the Mercedes GP Formula One team until 2016. He became World Champion after a year-long duel with Lewis Hamilton in 2016. He raced under the German flag in Formula One, although he competed for Finland earlier in his career.
Biography
Rosberg started out in karting in 1996 and then moved up to German Formula BMW in 2002, where he won the title. In late 2005, Rosberg was officially confirmed as a Williams driver for the 2006 season. Rosberg won the 2005 GP2 Series for the ART team, having raced in Formula 3 Euro Series previously for his father's team.
In 2008, Rosberg secured the first podium finish of his career with a strong drive to third place at the Australian Grand Prix. On 23 November 2009, Rosberg was announced as the Mercedes GP's first driver. Rosberg is slated to stay at Mercedes for the 2013 season where he will be partnered with Lewis Hamilton after Hamilton signed a three-year contract with the team.
He is the youngest driver to set the fastest lap: 20 years, 258 days in the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix. Nico Erik Rosberg (born in Wiesbaden, West Germany) is a racing driver for the Mercedes GP Formula One team. He holds the dual nationality of these two countries. Rosberg won the 2005 GP2 Series for the ART team, having raced in Formula 3 Euro Series previously for his father's team. For the 2010 Formula One season, Rosberg joined the re-branded Mercedes team, formed by Mercedes' takeover of 2009 constructors' champions Brawn GP.
Rosberg beat Michael Schumacher for three years in a row at Mercedes after getting teamed up with Lewis Hamilton in 2013.
Rosberg would finish runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in the championship in 2014 and 2015 but would turn things around in 2016 when he would beat Lewis Hamilton to win the championship. After winning the championship in 2016 Rosberg would announce his retirement from the sport.
