Background

Being born in Canada, Ferreira joined the youth ranks at Toronto FC at the age of 15. He then joined the youth ranks of FC Porto and was even named in their squad for the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League. However, he did not appear in any of the games as Porto went onto lift the trophy.

In the summer of 2011, Ferreira joined the youth ranks of AC Milan. He watched from the sidelines as the senior team went onto finish runners-up in the Serie A. He joined Empoli on loan in the next season and could make only five appearances for them.

Ferreira went back to Portugal at the start of the next season and joined Olhanense on a free transfer. He made nine appearances in the 2013-14 season and spent a majority of the matches on the bench.

Ferreira would join his third team in three seasons when he signed for Pacos Ferreira on a loan deal. He had a better season with Pacos and represented his latest club in 14 matches in the 2014-15 season.

During the summer of 2015, SC Braga bought Ricardo Ferreira for €300,000.

Debut

Ricardo Ferreira was approached by Canada Soccer to play international football for the country of his birth. But he was selected in the Portugal squad to play in the international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and United States in 2017.

He made his debut against United States on 15th November 2017 in a match which finished 1-1. He played the full 90 minutes in the international friendly.

Ferreira can still end up playing football for Canada as he has not appeared for Portugal in a competitive game.

Rise to Glory

Ricardo Ferreira’s rise to prominence as a footballer was brought about in SC Braga. He started making more appearances and playing consistently for the club. He would make 40 appearances in his debut season across various competitions and would help his club lift the Taca de Portugal.

He scored two own goals and his side lost the tie 1-6 on aggregate.

Club Career

Ferreira made his debut in his professional career during his loan spell at Empoli from AC Milan. He then joined Portuguese club Olhanense. After failing to establish himself in the first team of Olhanense, he moved to Pacos Ferreira on another loan spell. He would return the following season to join SC Braga and has spent three seasons at the club.
