Saurabh Chaudhary is an Indian shooter born on 12th May 2002. He hails from Kalina village of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. Like his shooting partner Manu Bhaker, Saurabh has early exposure and success on an international stage. Alongside Manu Bhaker, he is the youngest shooter to win international medals for India.
Saurabh Chaudhary- Early Life, Family & Background
Like every other Indian athlete, Saurabh too comes from humble family background. He belongs to a family of farmers living in Western Uttar Pradesh. His father, Jagmohan Singh is a farmer.
Saurabh took interest in shooting at the age of 13 while he was escorting his friend to a shooting range. Instantly, he got impressed with the shooting range and joined the next day. Saurabh has been regularly practicing shooting ever since the day he joined the shooting range. He used to journey up and down between home and the club for 15 kilometers by bus every day.
His talent was spotted by Amit Sheoren and took him under his wings. The coach was awestruck by his shooting brilliance. Saurabh’s family is very supportive of him taking shooting and created a shooting range at home between the two rooms so that he can practice in his free time as well.
Saurabh Chaudhary Biography
Before making the mark on an international stage, Saurabh has fared well and won medals in shooting at the national level. His achievements at the national level shooting competitions gave hopes to his coach that he could be the next star in Indian shooting.
In 2017, Saurabh made his cut to the 2018 Youth Olympics after he won a Gold medal at the Asia Youth Olympics qualification. In that same year, he earned his first international medal by winning Gold at the KSS Shooting Championships in the 10m air pistol individual.
In 2019, he won a Gold medal at the 63rd National Shooting Championships held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Saurabh Chaudhary Achievements
Saurabh's international career took off in 2017 at the age of 15. He won the Bronze medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships in a 10m air pistol mixed team event.
He was shot to fame after he became India’s youngest Gold medalist at the 2018 Asian Games. Subsequently, he won a Gold medal in 10m air pistol at the 2018 Youth Olympics. Later, he swept 3 Gold medals in 10m air pistol, 10m air pistol team junior, and 10m air pistol mixed team at the 2018 ISSF World Cup held at Suhl in Germany.
At the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships, he won a Gold, Silver, and Bronze respectively in 10m air pistol junior, 10m air men’s team, and mixed team 10m air pistol junior. In 2019, Saurabh won a bag of medals starting with Asian Shooting Championships held in Doha, where he won 2 silver medals in a 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team. Later in that year, Saurabh went on to clinch 6 Gold medals, a Silver and Bronze at the 2019 ISSF World Cup held in 5 venues (New Delhi, Munich, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, and Putian).
Saurabh Chaudhary will represent India at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after he won a 10m air pistol in the selection trials for the international multi-sports event. He is one of the strong medal prospects in shooting at the Tokyo Olympics.
