Sebastian Baez is a professional tennis player on the ATP circuit. He was born on the 28th of December, 2000 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Baez is ranked No.21, as per the ATP rankings, and achieved the career-high ranking of No. 18 in June 2024. Although he has tried his hand at doubles, the Argentine is primarily a singles specialist. Baez is coached by Sebastian Gutierrez.

Baez won his first ATP 500 title at the 2024 Rio Open, defeating Mariano Navone. He won the second title of the season at the 2024 Chile Open, defeating Alejandro Tabilo, thus becoming a Latin American No. 1 player.

In March 2018, Sebastian Baez became World No.1 in the junior rankings. He also won the Boys’ Doubles gold medal at the Youth Olympics. Although he has yet to win a Grand Slam title as of 2023, Baez has managed a steady rise. He has beaten the likes of Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe, and Dominic Thiem.

The 23-year-old Argentine has won five out of his six titles on clay. Since he does not have the height advantage or the raw power, he uses the slowness of claycourts and his superior movement to his benefit. Sebastian Baez started playing tennis at a very young age. He picked up a tennis racket for the first time when he was two.

“I found the racquet, carried it around the house and I have never let it go since that time,” Baez laughed and told TennisMajors.com in 2022.

He grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with his family. At 15, Baez met his eventual long-term coach Sebastian Gutierrez for the first time. During an ITF event in Brazil, Gutierrez noticed the young teen and questioned him about his obsession with fizzy drinks. When he was merely 17 years old, Baez became the No.1 ranked junior player.
