Trayvon Bormell: A Brief Biography
Trayvon Bromell is an American track and field athlete born on 10th July 1995. He hails from St.Petersburg city of Florida in the United States. Trayvon specializes in sprinting and represents the USA in 100m sprint.
Background
Trayvon Bromell was born to Cashmere Bromell and Shri Sanders. His father was a footballer who played in Canadian Football League, while his mother was a high school sprinter. Bromell has two brothers and a sister.
Bromell was inspired to take up athletics at the young age of 10 by his uncle, Terell Bromell when she saw him participating in the street race. He had attended Gibbs High School, where he represented them and won the 100m race at the Florida High School Athletics Association 3A State Finals.
After completion of his high school education, he joined Baylor University. While representing his university team, he won the 100m title at the Texas Relays and was honoured with ‘2014 Texas Relays Most Outstanding Performer’. Later, he went on to represent Baylor University in NCAA Championships.
Rise to Glory
Under the tutelage of Mike Ford, Trayvon Bromell got his first career breakthrough in 2013 by winning a 100m Gold medal at the US Junior Championships. The following year, he breached the 9-second barrier for the first time while claiming the 100m title at the NCAA Division 1 Championship, followed by another 100m title at the US Junior Athletics Championships.
In 2015, Bromell bagged a Gold medal in 200m at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships. That year, in June, he won a Silver medal and a Bronze in 100m and 200m respectively at the NCAA Division 1 Championship, which was followed by his first senior national medal, clinching Silver in 200m at the US Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In 2016, Trayvon Bromell won the Silver medal in 60m at the US Indoor Championships. That year, he secured his spot on the U.S Olympic Team for the Rio Olympics by winning the Silver medal in 200m at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Trayvon Bromell holds the record of being the joint 11th fastest 100m runner in the world with the 4th best national timing of 9.84 seconds.
Major Achievements
Trayvon Bromell got his first international career break in 2013 when he won the Gold medal and a Bronze in 4x100m relay and 100m individual respectively at the Pan-American Junior Championships. The following year, at the World Junior Athletics Championships, Brombell helped his US relay team to 4x100m title, while winning Silver in 100m sprints.
In 2015, Bromell made his international pro debut at the World Athletics Championships, where he won the Bronze medal in 100m sprints by clocking 9.92 seconds. In 2016, he clinched the 60-meter sprint title at the World Indoor Championships.
Trayvon Bromell made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics and turned out to be an unsuccessful campaign as he finished 8th in 100m and got disqualified in 4x100m final for an illegal baton pass.
Trayvon Bromell will eye for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics qualification in 100m by securing a spot on the U.S. Olympic team through U.S. Olympic trials slated to be held in June.
