Wesley Hoedt

Wesley Hoedt is a Dutch professional footballer who was born on March 6, 1994 in Alkmaar, Netherlands. He is a tall athlete with lanky physique who plays at the position of Centre back for his team.

Background

Hoedt began his youth football campaign with Alkmaar Zaanstreek in 2013. He was also part of their training academy till then since 2005. On December 12, he played his first game during the UEFA Europa League in a game against PAOK where he played the whole game which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Debut

On March 25, 2017 Wesley made his debut for Netherlands senior football team during the world cup qualifiers in a match against Bulgaria where he came in as a substitute for Matthijs de Ligt during the 46th minute. But the match ended in a 2-0 loss for the Netherlands.

Rise to glory

Hoedt had his one of the best time with Lazio when he transferred there in 2015. He appeared for them in 48 matches till 2017 where his one great performance came on August 21, 2016 against Atalanta in which he scored a goal which resulted in a 4-3 win for them.

Low points

Wesley's international career has not been impressive where he had six games mostly as a substitute, without scoring any goal. Apart from the senior team, he was also not able to score a goal neither for the Netherlands U15 team nor their U21 level team.

Club career

Hoedt began his club career with AZ Alkmaar on December 12, 2013 during UEFA Europa League in a match against PAOK where he took the field during the entire match. After that he was also selected for the 2014-14 KNVB Cup in their 24-man squad.

In 2015, Hoedt departed from AZ and joined Lazio on a four year contract with a reported transfer fee of of €1.25 million per season. On August 21, 2016 his first goal for them came in a match against Atalanta which resulted in a 4-3 win for Lazio.

On August 22, 2017 Hoedt signed for Southampton on a five year deal for around€17 million.
