This guide will showcase Girafarig’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Girafarig.

About Girafarig

As a generation two Pokemon, Girafarig first appeared in the original series of the anime in the episode The Psychic Sidekicks!. In this episode, a trainer named Cherry used her bond with Girafarig to showcase the move Future Sight. Girafarig is a standalone Pokemon and thus it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. Appearance

Girafarig is a black and yellow Pokemon that resembles a giraffe with a long neck and it walks on four hooves. At its base is a small black head that is connected by a black tail. Both of Girafarig’s heads are different, one resembles a giraffe’s head and the other is more cartoonish. On its giraffe-head, it has two horns, a snout with a pink nose, and on its back are black spots. Girafarig is a large Pokemon at 4 feet and 11 inches, or 1.5 meters, tall.

Behavior

While most of Girafarig’s behavior is what you would expect a Pokemon to have, it is unique in that its second head has a mind of its own. While its second head is not the most intelligent, it can react to smells and sounds. Girafarig is a herbivore and only eats grass and tree shoots, and its head will make chewing and swallowing motions as Girafarig eats. The Pokedex states that Girafarig’s second head does not require sleep and can help keep watch 24 hours a day.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As a standalone Pokemon, Girafarig has balanced stat distributions. Its strongest stat is its special attack and it has the speed stat to match. Unfortunately, it will begin to fall off later into the game. Until then, it can pose a reasonable threat as a mixed defensive and offensive Pokemon. As a dual type normal and psychic Pokemon, Girafarig takes 2x damage from dark and bug type moves. It is immune to ghost type moves and will resist psychic type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Girafarig was much more powerful in the earlier generations than the newer generations. It is simply outclassed by other Pokemon these days and struggles to keep up with new Pokemon’s potential. Girafarig is best used as an offensive Pokemon with a Life Orb held item. Consider running Nasty Plot, Hyper Voice, Psyshock, and Shadow Ball. Nasty Plot helps Girafarig deal significant damage, Hyper Voice can help cover types, Psyshock benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), and Shadow Ball is meant to offer more type coverage.
