Souvik Modak is a music reporter at Sportskeeda with a BA and MA in Sociology from Presidency University. Although he began exploring the genres of rock, blues, and heavy metal when he was in the fifth grade, Souvik believes it was his time at university that helped him sharpen his critical thinking abilities and develop a passion for writing, eventually leading him to his current role.

Souvik began his professional journey as a freelance writer, before taking up the role of Research and Engagement Officer at Prison Aid and Action Research (PAAR), where he led several projects across India. He went on to serve as Operations Manager at the organization before joining Sportskeeda.

As a writer, Souvik believes in maintaining accuracy, relevance, and ethical standards in his reportage. He combines his past work experience, background in Sociology, and knowledge about the industry to craft accurate and informative content.

Souvik enjoys listening to Erkin Koray, the pioneer of Turkish rock music, and admires his patience and determination towards his style of music in the face of adversity. If he had a time machine, he would love to be transported back to the year 1968 to study the socio-political movements and cultural expressions that unfolded globally, but particularly in West Bengal. He would also want to travel back to when Bob Dylan and Black Sabbath were at the peak of their careers.

When he is not busy keeping up with the latest events in the industry and writing about them, Souvik can be found reading non-fiction and playing the guitar with his Kolkata-based rock band, The Calcutta Syndrome.
