The units in the S-tier have great abilities and damage output, which makes them the best at clearing out waves of foes quickly. They all have amazing skills as well. The A-tier characters, while still incredible, lack some of the explosive damage output their S-tier peers offer. Hence, you might take a little more time to clear waves as they get more overwhelming.

The B-tier units are similar in that they don't have the damage output and accuracy to rival the characters in the higher tiers.

The C tier includes basic characters that should only be used when you are just starting and don't have other heroes. They can also be used as backup units at the beginning.

It is worth noting that despite the damage output and skills, each character in Anime Defenders is unique. While it is better to finish the waves as quickly as you can, the game's main goal is to allow players to have fun. So, you can make your deck and include units from all the various tiers depending on your preferences.
