While one can purchase most of the fishing rods from the merchant on the spawn island, the Magma Rod will make you travel to a different island and complete a mission. This is what makes it hard to obtain since most players, especially newbies, are unaware of the right location or the mission.

For starters, talk to the NPC on the shores called the Shipwright. He will sell you the boat that is required to travel to Roslit Bay. This is the island where you will get your hands on the Magma Rod. Once you spawn the boat and reach the right location, you must catch the Pufferfish. This is a rare catch and hence we recommend using the Seaweed bait.

Using this bait will attract this fish making the task easier. Once you have the Pufferfish in your inventory, head inside the Roslit Volcano cave and look for an NPC called Orc. Note that you will have to explore quite a bit before you reach the right location. You will find the Orc sitting near a tent facing the sea. Interact with him and hand over the Pufferfish. He will hand you the Magma Rod as a reward.
