Can he steal the show?Kevin Owens vs John Cena is the best feud that the WWE has in their arsenal right now. The booking of this storyline has been poetic so far. First, Owens showed up of nowhere and shocked the world by defeating Cena. The next chapter at Money in the Bank saw John Cena pleasing his fans. Some careful booking, however, made Owens look strong. As things stand now, both superstars have one win each. This calls for a rubber match at Battleground. It is the perfect setting and having United States Championship on the line makes things more interesting. Owens doesn’t want to win the title because he ‘wants to win the title’; he just wants to take away what Cena stands for.The hustle, the loyalty and respect that Cena upholds along with the title will be on the line at the show and here is a look at the possible ways in which WWE could end it.
#3 How they usually end such feuds
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This is a situation where both wrestlers cannot lose. Owens is over as a top heel and Cena is the best champion in the roster (like it or not). Letting either of these men take a clean loss would deter their respective momentum. WWE have experienced such situations in the past and they know the safest way as well.
Last year, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were having a similar do or die match inside the Hell in a Cell. Both Rollins and Ambrose were not in a situation to lose then. So WWE simply made Bray Wyatt interfere in the match. Rollins won the match, but Ambrose did not lose his momentum.
The chances of seeing such a finish at Battleground is high. The only question is: who will interfere? It could be anyone from a Samoan NXT guy or some celebrity from Hollywood.
#2 Cena is the king of rubber
Cena losing a match is rare. Cena losing a rubber match is a miracle. With the recent reports of his merchandise sales dropping, it would not be a big surprise if WWE lets Cena take this one clean. No matter how much over Kevin Owens is, he will never be able to dethrone Cena from the corporate ladder.
We know that the masks of hustle, loyalty and respect that Cena wears is fragile, but that is what drives the business. He can talk, he is a role model, and he makes the kids happy. And after all, seeing their kids happy is what every parent wants. It is the hard reality of this era. The product is not anymore for the 18-30 demographic. So brace yourself for a possible ending like this.
This might happen or not happen, but there is a question that WWE should ask themselves in light of the dropping merchandise sales: Do John Cena fans love him only because he wins?
#1 What Internet wants
What Internet wants is a clean win for Kevin Owens. Owens handling the pressure of such a big win is another story but if he wins that will be a big boost for the NXT champ in the main roster. Not because they love him, just because they hate John Cena. Now, these emotions are once again driven by the PG era factor that was mentioned earlier.
A big portion of the WWE Universe holds Cena responsible for the entire thing. He is the face of WWE, but that doesn’t mean Cena is the face of PG. The guy deserves a lot of credit for what he does for the business. So anyone who wishes for this ending just because they hate Cena is simply asking for a short term relief.
The other portion of the fans who legitimately wants to see Owens win will enjoy this one on the longer run. Apart from the momentary pop that happens at Battleground, they will remember the match as a classic that took the story between two great wrestlers further.
But above all, we will see the rise of Owens. From a fat boy in the independent circuit to becoming someone who defeated John Cena, he is going to be the real winner.
