UndertakerBattleground might not fit into WWE’s description of an ‘A Grade’ Pay-Per-View, but 2015 edition will be different. WWE is all set to release their Network subscription numbers soon and this skyrockets the importance of the Sunday’s pay-per-view. Shock value is a shortcut for WWE to attract eyeballs. Some major twists and returns always get the fans talking and employing these tactics at Battleground will work wonders. We have already seen the possible twists that WWE could pull off at Battleground this year and now, it is time to take a look at the possible returns. Some of this might sound like a long shot, but with so much desperation in the air, these returns are indeed possible.
#5 Chris Jericho
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Chris Jericho is still popular among the WWE authorities. He impressed everyone with his performance in the live shows and at the same time, Jericho is having a good time as the Tough Enough host. WWE can do it two ways. They could either let him come back and have an excellent match with some youngster or they could just let him deliver a promo which will promote Tough Enough.
The former will be more preferred by the fans since it would add a quality match into the match card. Neville could be the opponent and they can reproduce the magic they had on the network special in Japan. Promo will work as well, but a match will be more effective.
#4 Usos
The return date of the Usos is yet to be disclosed by the WWE. Jey’s shoulder injury is what’s keeping the team away from in-ring action. Jimmy has been commentating on SmackDown for the time being, but all that could change at Battleground. The tag team division desperately needs the Usos right now.
New Day could win the championship from Prime Time Players at the pay-per-view and then set up a match with the Usos at SummerSlam. Usos have a better babyface following than Prime Time Players and with the hate New Day generates, it is bound to be a solid feud between the two teams. WWE could make it a three-way battle as well if they want to.
#3 The Rock
There aren’t many wrestlers in WWE’s payroll that could draw better than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. WWE made good use of him at WrestleMania and Rock recently showed up on a live event as well. Although he did not do much on the live show, his appearance was enough to make headlines. The same might happen at Battleground.
Rock just has to show up and have a segment with someone in the roster. If WWE wants to take it to the next level, they could build on the Triple H-Rock friction that was there to be seen at WrestleMania. Having Rock confront Brock Lesnar will be good if WWE is planning a Rock vs. Brock Lesnar match for WrestleMania 32.
#2 Undertaker
The rumors of Undertaker’s return have taken over the internet. Taker was seen ripped in a recent photo and this has kicked off a whirlwind of speculations. With the Network subscription numbers also in the mix, Taker might just make a return. Seeing Taker wrestle at SummerSlam will be a great moment for the WWE Universe.
But who will Take go up against? It is a question that needs to be answered. Setting up a match against Lesnar will make sense since they have some history. Then again, it would take the momentum away from Lesnar. So the best option WWE has at their disposal is the next guy in this list.
#1 Sting
Everyone is busy talking about Undertaker’s possible return to the WWE. No one would expect Sting to show up at Battleground and that is the beauty of this inclusion. If Sting comes out at Battleground, the entire WWE Universe is going to mark out. This could be the beginning of the dream feud that we have been waiting for decades.
Sting vs. Undertaker at SummerSlam would sell like hot pancakes. Also, it takes the pressure off WWE to book both wrestlers strongly. If it was a farewell match at WrestleMania, letting either of these superstars lose would have been a difficult choice. But if it is Summerslam, the match would be easier to book.
