With every passing year since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the expectations are rising amongst the sports enthusiasts in India. The previous edition saw the 1.4bn populated country win seven medals - four bronze, two silver, and one gold. This time out, the Indian contingent looks far more superior to the previous occasion. Moreover, some of the medalists from the Tokyo Games are also part of the Paris Olympics 2024.
However, India have never won any medal in judo. In Tokyo, all eyes were on Sushila Devi who took part in the 48kg division. This time out, it will be a debutant who will once again be the sole representative of India at the showpiece event.
Tulika Maan, who currently holds the World No.36 rank in the +78kg category will be there in the Summer Games. Although she lost in the bronze medal match at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, she was a silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
She will be desperate to establish her name once again and more firmly on the international stage come August.
