The Paris Olympics 2024 is hardly a month away. This time out the Summer Games will witness 39 sports and 329 events, which means there will be a dip in events from the Tokyo Games which comprised 41 sports and 339 events (as per NBC Olympics). However, swimming has been an integral part of the Olympics ever since the first Modern Olympic Games, which took place back in 1896.

Meanwhile, India will be fielding two very promising candidates - Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu.

It is important to know why and how they have been selected for the Summer Games. For the Paris Olympics, no Indian swimmer succeeded in achieving the Olympic Qualification Time (OQT) or the Olympic Consideration Time (OCT) in any of the events within the Paris Games' swimming qualification window (March 1, 2023 to June 23, 2024).

As a result, the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) had to request for University quota places. Under this rule, any NOC which doesn't have a qualified athlete or relay team gets the chance to field two athletes. Out of these two, one should participate in a men's event and the other in a women's event.

On June 26, 2024, the SFI announced the two swimmers who will represent India in Paris.
