Born on December 2, 1996, in Buffalo, New York, Anita Alvarez is an American artistic and synchronized swimmer. She graduated from the Kenmore West Senior High School in 2014. Alvarez began her professional career in the women’s duet at the 2016 Summer Olympics where she finished 9th with Mariya Koroleva. She was a member of the USA Synchronized Swimming National Team that competed in the 2015 World Championships and 2014 Junior World Championships. She also participated in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics with Lindi Schroeder where she was placed 13th. She was named USA Synchro Athlete of the Year in 2016 and 2019, and Artistic Swimming Athlete of the Year in 2021.

During the 2022 Budapest World Aquatics Championship, Artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez fainted and sank to the pool’s bottom while they were training poolside. With quick thinking and bravery, Fuentes dove in and rescued Anita. After some medical checkups, it was concluded that Alvrez has recovered and she plans to continue competing.
