Caeleb Dressel

Caeleb Dressel is an American swimmer born on 16th August 1996. He is a native of Green Cove Springs city of Florida in the United States. Dressel specializes in Butterfly and Freestyle and represents the USA primarily in 100m Butterfly and Freestyle events.

Background:

Caeleb Dressel was born to Michael Dressel and Christina Dressel. He was born and brought up in Green Cove Springs city in Florida. Caeleb’s father is a veterinarian by profession. He has three siblings, Kaitlyn, Tyler, and Sherridon Dressel, all of them are competitive swimmers.

Caeleb was introduced to a swimming coach at a very young age. He attended Clay High School in his hometown but trained with the Bolles School Sharks team in Jacksonville under the tutelage of Sergio Lopez. Caeleb had represented his club at high school competitions and junior nationals.

In 2014, after graduating from Clay High School, Caeleb moved to the University of Florida, where joined the swimming and diving team of Florida Gators. He had competed at the NCAA and SEC Championships while representing his college team.

In 2019, Caeleb graduated with a degree in Natural Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida. While at college, he won several accolades including SEC Male Swimmer of the Year thrice (2016, 2017, and 2018) and CSCAA Swimmer of the Year in 2018.

Rise to Glory:

Caeleb Dressel's first career breakthrough came in 2011 when he won the 50m Freestyle junior national title while breaking the junior record at the National Junior Swimming Championships. In 2012, he won 100m Freestyle and 4x200m Freestyle Relay at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.

In 2015, Caeleb Dressel won his first collegiate title by winning the 50 y Freestyle at the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Swimming Championships. That year, in August, he clinched the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle titles at the Senior National Swimming Championships.

In 2016, Caeleb had won two NCAA titles in 50 y Freestyle and 100 y Freestyle. He would go to win seven titles in 50 y Freestyle (2), 100 y Freestyle (2), 100 y Butterfly (2), and 4x50 y Freestyle (1) at the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Swimming Championships in 2017 and 2018.

At the 2017 Senior National Swimming Championships, Caebel Dressel bagged three titles in 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and 100m Butterfly. The following year, he defended his 100m Butterfly national title. Caebel Dressel holds the world record in 100m Butterfly with a timing of 49.50s and a national record in 50m Freestyle (21.04s) and 100m Freestyle (46.96s).

Major Achievements:

Caeleb Dressel got his first international break at the 2013 World Junior Swimming Championships, where he won the Gold medal in 100m Freestyle, two Silver medals in 4x100m Boys’ and 4x100m Mixed and three Bronze medals in 50m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Mixed

Caeleb made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics and clinched two Gold medals in 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley. In 2018, he had won multiple medals, including 5 Gold medals in 100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x50m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley, 4x50m Mixed Medley and 4x50m Mixed Freestyle at the World Swimming Championships

Between 2017 and 2019, Caeleb Dressel had won 13 titles with two each in 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 50m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle, and 4x100m Mixed Freestyle and one in 4x100m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships.

Caeleb Dressel will look to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via US Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to win multiple medals in Swimming at the multi-sports event.
