Brooks Curry is an American competitive swimmer, who has squared off in multiple prestigious competitions and has nabbed multiple accomplishments. He is currently pursuing his NCAA career at Louisiana State University and started competing for the school’s swim team, the LSU Tigers in 2019. From the Olympics to the World Championships to the Pan American Games, Curry has gained expertise in each of them.
Brooks Curry made his Olympics debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He qualified for the 4x100m freestyle relay in the US Olympic trials by touching the finish line 48.19s. In the 2020 Summer Games, he won a gold medal in the finals and became the first swimmer from the Louisiana State University Athletics Program to win a gold medal at the Olympics in swimming. Along with this, he was also the first swimmer from the organization since the 2000 Summer Olympics to compete in the 4x100m freestyle in a Summer Game.
He produced a stellar performance in the 2022 long-course World Championships as well. He won three medals, of which one was gold (4x100m freestyle), one was silver (4x100m medley), and one was bronze (4x100m mixed freestyle). Similarly, he delivered an exceptional performance in the Pan American Games as well. He clinched three silver medals in the 100m freestyle, 4x100m medley, and 4x200m medley events at the 2023 iteration of the competition.
Another addition of medals in his resume was during the 2022 NCAA Championships, where he won two golds in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events. With these wins, the Dunwoody native became the third male swimmer in the history of the LSU swimming and diving program to win a title at an NCAA Championships. Apart from this, he also etched his name in a historic win by becoming the first person since Mark Andrews in 1988 to win a title in the 50m freestyle.
The 23-year-old will be seen next competing in the 4x200m relay at the Paris Olympics 2024, which is slated to be held from July 26 - August 11.
