Andrea Fuentes joined the Spanish national synchronized swimming team in 1999 and competed in three consecutive Olympic Games—2004 in Athens, 2008 in Beijing, and 2012 in London. Throughout her Olympic career, Fuentes amassed a collection of four medals: three silvers and one bronze, in both the women's duet and team events. Beyond the Olympics, Fuentes has secured 16 World Championship medals and 11 European Championship medals. Her prowess and dedication to the sport have placed her alongside other Spanish sporting legends like tennis star Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and swimmer Mireia Belmonte.

Fuentes' career ended unexpectedly in January 2013 when she retired from elite competition. She cited demotivation due to a conflict between the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation and the head coach of the national team, Ana Tarrés, as the primary reason for her departure.
