Carson Foster is a professional swimmer for Team USA and swam at Mason Manta Rays Swim Club. He was born on October 26, 2001, and hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. He specializes in backstroke, butterfly, freestyle, and individual medley events. Carson became well-known after breaking swimming legend Michael Phelps' Under-10 100-meter butterfly national record. Phelps swam it in 1:08.54 in 1996, but Carson did it in 1:07.24.

At the very tender age of 10, Carson Foster became the youngest American in his age group to succeed in the 50-meter butterfly event. In 2020, he participated in the U.S. Olympic trials and won the bronze medal in the 400-meter individual medley event. He went to the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in communication and leadership, and represented the Texas Longhorns in tournaments. Carson is also an NCAA champion and has won 11 championship medals.

Carson won two silver medals at the 2017 World Junior Championships and did even better at the 2019 World Junior Championships, winning four gold medals and a silver. In 2020, he took part in the Junior Pan Pacific Championship. During his freshman season, Carson helped his swim club win their first NCAA Championship and National title. Individually, he swept the gold medals in the 200 IM/400 IM/200 backstroke with a finishing time of 1:41.46, 3:40.22, and 1:40.34.

In his sophomore year, Carson helped Texas win the 800-meter free relay national title. Their swim time of 6:03.89 became the NCAA, US Open, and American records. Carson also won the silver medal in the 200 backstroke and the bronze medal in the 400 IM, with finishing times of 1:38.77 and 3:35.69. During his senior season, he won two silver medals at the 2021 and 2022 short-course World Championships. He is currently ranked the 8th-best timer in the 400-meter IM and the 4th-best timer in the 200-meter butterfly in 2022.

Carson gave up the last two years of his NCAA eligibility to sign a professional contract with Mizuno. At the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, he swam his fourth-fastest breaststroke time and qualified for his first Olympics.
