Day 5 brought massive joy for Indians as a silver medal was added to our tally. Deepa Malik created history after becoming the first ever Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics.
Day 6 sees four Indians competing across two competitions. Despite not quite making a mark at the Games so far, India’s only para-swimmer has certainly won the hearts of his countrymen back home. A double amputee, Suyash Singh Jadhav has certainly managed to inspire and unify sports audience across the country. He will be competing in the men’s 200m Individual medley event on September 13.
Another major event to look forward to will be Men’s F46 Javelin Throw. The Gold medallist from the 2004 Athens Paralympics, Devendra Jhajharia, will certainly be one of the highlights of the event. Jhajharia is currently ranked third in the world in this category according to the latest IPC rankings. After his stellar success in 2004, he was honoured with the 2004 Arjuna Award. In 2012, he was the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri Award becoming the first Paralympian to be honoured such.
World No 2 Sundar Singh Gurjar will also be participating in this very event. He is the current national record holder after having registered a throw of 68.42m at the 16th National Para-Athletics Championship. He is one of India’s top medal prospects.
They will be joined by World ranked 14, Rinku Hooda who is also a competitor in F46 Javelin.
