Kathryn Eileen Grimes is an American competitive swimmer who will be seen at the Paris Olympics later this year. Notably, she won the 1500-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley silver medals at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships. Grimes' formative years were spent residing in Las Vegas, being raised by Shari and Christian Grimes. Motivated by the athletic pursuits of her older siblings, she embarked on her swimming journey by joining the Sandpipers competitive squad in Nevada. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, she represented Team USA as the youngest member, following in the footsteps of Amanda Beard, who participated in the 1996 Olympics at the age of 14.

During the 2020 US Olympic Trials held in Omaha, Nebraska, Grimes secured her spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 800-meter freestyle event, achieving a commendable second place behind Katie Ledecky with an impressive time of 8:20.36. Katie Grimes is a two-time Olympian as of 2024 and has one silver medal from her efforts. Moreover, she also has achieved four medals from her participation in the World Championships, which includes three silver medals and one bronze medal.

Who is Katie Grimes’ Coach, Ron Aitken?

Ron Aitken is the coach of Katie Grimes as of August 2024. Atiken is an experienced head coach with more than 35 years of expertise in developing successful athletes and teams in competitive swimming. As the leader of the Sandpipers of Nevada, he has built a highly successful swim program that has been ranked among the top five in the USA Swimming Club Excellence program for ten consecutive years, and most recently, it was the second-best program in the United States. Notably, Aitken holds the highest certification, Level 5, from the American Swimming Coaches Association.

Ron Aitkin’s Coaching Career

Ron Aitkin has been lucky enough to coach the Olympic medallists, American record holders, and Worlds Junior champions throughout his career. Notably, Aitken has managed to train six athletes who ended up having 8 Olympic medals ranging from 2016 to 2021. He has also been the head coach of the USA Open Water Team and the World Jr. Open Water Team. Moreover, he has had tenures as a member of National and National Junior teams.

Ron Aitken is presently the CEO and Head Coach of Sandpipers of Nevada since October 1994. Additionally, he has also been a coach at Bishop German High School since February 1999 to June 2023.
