Dhinidhi Desinghu, the Indian swimmer who was recently part of the Paris Olympics 2024, secured five gold at the 40th Sub-Junior and 50th Junior National Aquatic Championship 2024, which concluded on Sunday, August 11.
Swimming Federation of India hosted the championship, which commenced on August 6 and concluded on August 11 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha with Karnataka topping the medal tally with 104 medals, including 50 gold.
Moving into the details, the swimming sensation displayed excellent skills, stealing the headlines with her impressive performances. A total of 11 junior national records were broken at the Championships in multiple events.
Dhinidhi Desinghu created a new record in the 50m freestyle event, clocking 27.16 seconds in the heats to surpass the decade-long record held by Maana Patel. Later in the final, she bettered her record, clocking 26.89 seconds.
Later, she propelled her team to better their junior national record of 8:57.98 to 8:55.30 in the 4x300m freestyle event.
Rishabh Anupam Das of Maharashtra bagged four gold medals and one silver while Nitheesh from Tamil Nadu also secured four gold and one silver medal. Additionally, Manipur's Koijam Athobia Singh bagged four gold medals.
In the girls category, Maharashtra's Pratishtha B Dangi secured three gold medals and one bronze while Serena Saroha of Haryana clinched three gold medals and two silvers in the National Aquatic Championship 2024.
Odisha State Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj attended the opening ceremony of the National Aquatic Championship 2024 as the chief guest.
“Hon'ble Minister, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri @suryabanshibjp attended as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the 40th Sub-Junior and 50th Junior National Swimming Competition 2024 held at the Aquatic Center of Keeling Stadium and awarded the swimmers who achieved success in the competition and encouraged all the competitors,” Odisha Sports tweeted on X.
“The program was attended by @swimmingfedera1 , @OdishaSwimming and senior officials of Sports and Youth Services Department,” the tweet read.
