Melanie Margalis-Fink is the assistant women's swimming coach at SMU. She started as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech in 2022, right after a successful swimming career. This appointment was made by head coach Ozzie Quevedo. During her active years as a swimmer, Margalis-Fink participated in the 4x200 freestyle event at the 2016 Olympics and won the gold medal. From 2017 to 2019, she was involved in the long-course and short-course World Championships, winning more gold medals in those tournaments. In the 2021 short course Worlds tournament, Margalis-Fink won the bronze medal in the 400 IM while representing Team USA.
Melanie Margalis-Fink has won All-American honors across these events: 200 breast, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay, making her a 17-time All-American champion. Melanie was named the 2009-2010 Pinellas County Female Athlete of the Year after swimming the 500-yard freestyle that won the state championship.
