Ryan Held, born June 27, 1995, in Springfield, Illinois, is an American freestyle swimmer who specializes in sprint events. He holds the U.S. Open record in the long-course 100-meter freestyle and three world records in short-course relay events. Held's most notable achievement is winning a gold medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He is married to Lexie Lupton, a former collegiate swimmer and current account executive. The couple tied the knot on December 3, 2022.
At the 2018 World Short Course Championships, he won four gold medals and one silver medal. In 2019, he broke the U.S. Open and Championships records in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 47.39 seconds. Held continued his success at the 2021 World Short Course Championships, winning two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.
He made his FINA World Aquatics Championships debut in 2022, winning gold in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay. Held's college career at North Carolina State University was equally impressive, earning 25 All-American honors and winning four NCAA relay titles. He was named the ACC Most Valuable Swimmer for men in 2017 and 2018.
