Synchronized swimming can be compared to ballroom dancing or water ballet and what could possibly happen when you perform a routine with Led Zepplin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ played in the background? Yes, You win a gold medal at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome.
Of course, hard rock and synchronized swimming probably sound like a strange combination, but a group of 10 talented Spanish swimmers showcased a jaw-dropping performance, rocking out with their routine to the greatest rock songs of all time. Prior to this competition, the Spanish synchronized swimming team had struggled to bag the gold medal in the previous years. But in this particular instance, they decided to turn it up a notch.
For the people who are familiar with this track, you must have noticed that the song starts off melodically and gracefully, but it soon builds to an electric crescendo and kudos to the girls who were with them every step of the way.
They pirouetted in unison during the gentle intro and awed the crowd with their grace. And as soon as the drums began to pound and the guitar started to wail, the Spaniards were displaying their acrobatic skills, flexibility, balance and most importantly, splashing in the pool like headbangers.
It was indeed a treat for the crowd who enjoyed every moment of it and when it built to the song’s climax, the entire arena erupted. They revealed just how precise their synchronized moments truly are.
