Kate Douglass is an American professional swimmer, specialising in medley, breaststroke, freestyle, and butterfly events. Born on November 17, 2001, She debuted in the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal. A native of Pelham, New York, she swims for the New York Athletic Club, under coach Todd DeSorbo.
Kate attended the University of Virginia, where she contributed significantly to her team’s three consecutive national championships in 2023. Kate Douglass was born and brought up in Pelham, New York, where she attended Pelham Memorial High School, which was the only high school in the town at that time. Kate’s parents introduced her to the sport when she was just seven years old. Growing up with two siblings, Abby and Will, they both pursued soccer and Kate is the only swimmer from her family.
Kate loved chocolate as a kid and her parents and coaches would bribe for candies and chocolates to do best in her swimming competitions. Initially, she competed at Westchester Aquatic Club and later moved to the Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club in New York City, where she gained more experience.
Douglass started her NCAA career with University of Virginia in 2019. During her freshman year, she became the fastest freshman ever in the 200-yard individual medley.
She won the 50-yard freestyle title at the 2021 NCAA Championships and helped her team win their first national championship. In her junior season, she set records in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard breaststroke. Her achievements earned her the Swimmer of the Meet and the 2022 NCAA Female Swimmer of the Year honours.
