John Carroll Alexy (alias Jack Alexy) is an American Competitive Swimmer specializing in freestyle and backstroke. He competes for the California Golden Bear collegiately and will represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. During his high school in New Jersey, Jack was named three-time state champion and three-time Morris County Champion. He won the titles at the YMCA Nationals and was the Junior National champion for consecutive years in the 100-meter freestyle in 2018 and 2019. He was ranked no. 6 by Swimswam in the high school class of 2021. Jack joined the University of California in October 2019. As a freshman, he participated at the Pax-12 Championship, where he finished 6th in the 50-meter freestyle, 10th in the 100-meter freestyle, and 3rd in the 100-meter freestyle. He also contributed to his team’s win in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle relay. Jack finished 3rd in the 400-meter freestyle relay and 2nd in the 200-meter freestyle relay leading to the Bear’s victory of the 2021-22 NCAA Championship title.
During his Sophomore year, Jack placed 5th in the 50-meter freestyle and 2nd in the 100-meter freestyle at the Pac-12 Championships and later anchored his team to the 400-meter freestyle relay victory. At the NCAA Championship, he secured 6th in the 50-meter freestyle and 2nd in the 100-meter freestyle. He also swam on Cal’s 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle relays. Jack [performed outstandingly at the dual meets against Arizona and ASU and also clocked notable times at the Minnesota Invite. At the NCAA Championship, He made a significant contribution to the Cal’s record-breaking 800-meter freestyle relay win.
Jack turned professional in 2019. At the 2019 World Junior Championship, he earned a gold medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay. He also broke Caeleb Dressel’s 17-18 National Age Record in the 100-meter freestyle at the 2020 Olympic Trials. Jack claimed a gold medal in the 4×100 m medley, three silver medals in the 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 4×100 m mixed freestyle, and a bronze medal in the 4×100 m freestyle at the 2023 Fukuoka World Aquatics Championship. At the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Jack secured his spot in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics with a 47.38 in the 100-meter freestyle.
