A-Town Down Under

A-Town Down Under is a professional wrestling tag team featuring American wrestler Austin Theory and Australian wrestler Grayson Waller on WWE’s SmackDown brand. The duo has held the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship once, a title which was rebranded as the WWE Tag Team Championship during their reign.

Austin Theory

Austin Tyler White, popularly known as Austin Theory, born on August 2, 1997, is an American bodybuilder and professional wrestler affiliated with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as of October 2024. Inspired by his childhood idol, John Cena, Theory developed a passion for wrestling at a young age. At just 17, he won first place in the Teen Men category at the 2015 NPC Georgia Bodybuilding Championship. He soon transitioned into professional wrestling, making his debut at a WWA4 event, where he captured the WWA4 Heavyweight Championship. After gaining valuable experience and recognition on various independent circuits, he signed with WWE in August 2019.

Grayson Waller

Matthew Farrelly popularly known as Grayson Waller, born on March 21, 1990, in Sydney, New South Wales, is an Australian professional wrestler signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as of October 2024. Before stepping into the world of wrestling, Waller had a successful career as a Golden Gloves boxer and also worked as a history teacher at De La Salle College in Revesby Heights, Sydney. He made his wrestling debut under the moniker Matty Wahlberg at a Newcastle Pro Wrestling event and quickly gained prominence in several independent promotions, capturing multiple championships. In March 2021, Waller joined WWE, making his debut on the NXT brand.

History of A-Town Down Under

A-Town Down Under was formed when Austin Theory and Grayson Waller teamed up in late September 2023, quickly establishing their chemistry by defeating The Brawling Brutes on the September 22 episode of SmackDown. Their collaboration gained momentum, leading to a title match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso on October 13, 2023, where they came up short. Despite a rocky start, they continued to evolve, with Waller's support contributing to Theory's eventual victory over Carmelo Hayes in January 2024.

On February 24, 2024, the duo co-hosted The Grayson Waller Effect, teasing tension within their alliance after being attacked by Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. They later entered a tag team tournament, defeating teams like The O.C. and The Street Profits, which earned them a spot in a six-pack ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XL. On Night 1 of WrestleMania XL, Waller successfully retrieved the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, marking their rise to the top of the tag team division.

Following their victory, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship was rebranded as the WWE Tag Team Championship, with Theory and Waller receiving new title belts from WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. A-Town Down Under successfully defended their titles against The Street Profits on May 3, 2024. However, their reign came to an end on July 5, 2024, when they lost the championships to #DIY after holding them for 90 days. Prior to the title loss, they had already been feuding with #DIY and were unable to reclaim the titles in a subsequent rematch.

As their storyline evolved, A-Town Down Under became embroiled in various rivalries. On September 6, 2024, Theory faced Kevin Owens in a 2-on-1 handicap match, which ended in defeat for A-Town Down Under. The duo continued to target Owens, but suffered another loss on September 13, 2024, in a tag team match against Owens and Randy Orton.

On September 23, 2024, A-Town Down Under achieved a significant milestone by winning their first match in NXT, defeating the team of Cedric Alexander and Je'Von Evans. Their victory set the stage for a title opportunity, as the NXT Tag Team Championships were contested on the October 8 edition of "WWE NXT." However, in a hard-fought match, the reigning champions Axiom and Nathan Frazer successfully defended their titles against them.
